Thursday was a beautiful evening in Middleton’s Lakeview Park, where the Rotary Club of Madison West Middleton and city officials gathered to celebrate the newly refurbished ADA (equally accessible) Rotary Pier.
Speakers included Mayor Lisa Janairo, Rotary Club President Mary Beth Growney Selene, Parks and Rec Director Kiley Scherer and Rotarian Mary Van Hout.
Each commentator expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration. Van Hout, in her comments, reached back in city history, recalling former Middleton staffer Kurt Breunig’s insight as to a need for better fishing access in the park, including for those with physical handicaps.
Following the speakers, Mayor Lisa Janairo cut the ribbon at the entrance to the pier for another season of fishing.
The original pier was constructed in 2014 and recently refurbished, with composite decking replacing a deteriorated wooden surface. Both builds were accomplished with significant financial contributions from the local Rotary Club.
Rotary's global commitment to peace building is reflected in the Peace Pole, which is found at the pier’s entryway, displaying the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Where better to find peace than with a rod, a reel and a spot alongside a pretty pond, like the one in Lakeview Park?
