Recently, the Rotary Club of Jefferson and Rotary Club of Changemakers partnered with the Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo, District 3850 in the Philippines to support the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Aklan Chapter, by donating two portable dental equipment. This collaboration focuses on providing dental care to vulnerable children and adults in need.
Present at the event were PDA Aklan President Dr. Chastie Amari Cabral and her team, who received the said equipment in the presence of D3850 Governor Voting and Lady Roselyn Centino during the Governor's visit to Metro Kalibo.
We take the impact of dental issues very seriously, as they can affect your entire body. A toothache can lead to widespread discomfort, making everything else feel painful. Maintaining good oral health is essential for overall well-being. It can help prevent serious diseases, minimize complications from chronic conditions, and even bolster mental health. Additionally, strong oral hygiene is associated with success in both education and career.
As reported by the Department of Health in the Philippines, approximately 92.4% of Filipinos experience tooth decay (dental caries), while 78% suffer from gum diseases (periodontal diseases) (DOH, NMEDS 1998). Despite being preventable, these conditions impact nearly every Filipino during their lifetime. The oral health condition of Filipino children is particularly concerning.
Rotary's mission within the community focuses on closing the gaps and creating opportunities for individuals living in extreme poverty who lack access to healthcare.
