DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE

Dear District 6250 Rotarians,

Our focus in October is on Polio.  Below a polio message from me and a special guest ... filming went a little different than planned when we couldn't find the September 19th edition of the New York Times at the local library.  That edition contained a lengthy article on the reemergence of polio in the Philippines.  Watch the video and see if you can figure out how that article would have been featured!

Following the video a story by our long-time District Polio Chair Randy Sproule.  Rotarians in District 6250 have raised more than $3 million toward the fight to eradicate polio.  Additionally, no Rotary district in the western hemisphere has produced more National Immunization Day volunteers.  A legacy to be very proud of and to continue ... please donate to PolioPlus in October ... contribute today at https://my.rotary.org/en/donate

OCTOBER 24TH - WORLD POLIO DAY
Rotary International has designated October 24 as World Polio Day.  What a tremendous opportunity to reflect on all that we have accomplished in our fight to rid the world of this dreaded disease!

In 1985 we made a promise to the children of the world—we promised them that we would eradicate polio from the face of the earth.  On the day that we made that promise there were 125 countries on 5 continents that were polio endemic.  During the year of 1985 more than 350,000 children were paralyzed by or died as a result of the polio virus.  Read more below.

PINTS FOR POLIO - OCTOBER 24TH - HOLD AN EVENT!

Piggyback off other Rotarians hard work!  The Madison and La Crosse Area Rotary Clubs are holding a Pints for Polio event on October 24th to coincide with World Polio Day.  Feel free to contact Eric Gormanson of the Fitchburg / Verona Rotary Club to get quick details on how to set it up a similar even in your area ... dr.gormanson@gmail.com.

Here's one detail.  Pints for Polio shirts can be ordered directly via Madison Top's website at a cost of $15 each. A portion of the price will cover production and the remainder will go back to the clubs.  Clubs should consider donating proceeds to The Rotary Foundation designating the funds for "Eradicating Polio." The shirts, when ready, will be sorted by club and delivered for further distribution.  Clubs from outside the Madison area will need to arrange for pickup of the shirts or pay for shipping to the club.  Shirts will be bulk shipped to each club and they will handle distribution to their individual members.  The deadline to order shirts has passed.

MADISON AREA BOOKS FOR THE WORLD PROGRAM
by DG Edwin Bos

In mid-September Rotarians Thom Weiss and Judy Levine gave me a tour of the Madison Area Books for the World Warehouse.  What a Program!  Seven semi trailers of books per year sent to Houston for distribution around the world.  Imagine my surprise when Rotarian Terry Ziegler from Houston got up to speak at our recent Rotary Zone meetings in Kansas City.  He described the massive books program they coordinate in Houston and gave only one shout out ... to Madison and District 6250!  Thom Weiss is looking for volunteers  to help pack books!  Get in touch!  School books only!  tweiss57@gmail.com
THE 6250 MISSION CONTROL CENTER - HOW IS YOUR CLUB DOING?
This month each Club's Polio Plus and Annual Giving goals have been added to the Mission Control Center.  These Goals are set by the Club Presidents unless no goal was given in which case I provided a suggested goal.  Clubs are absolutely free to change these goals as they see fit.   Long and short-term Youth Exchange, Rotaract, Interact etc..  Please keep all these important Mission functions top of mind even though our focus changes from month to month.  Download the Viewing Window below to see how your club is doing.  Each Club listed by AG Group in 12 separate worksheets.  Help your Club President turn your club solid GREEN!
Congratulations 6250!  Out of 17 Districts in our Rotary Zone!
