THE DISTRICT 6250 TRAVELING BELL
Current Location: The Rotary Traveling Bell moved to the Marshfield Sunrise Rotary Club!
Scorekeeper: Janie Spencer, phone: 608-785-8495, email: spencer.jane@uwlax.edu
The District Traveling Bell is intended to foster more interaction between clubs and Rotarians in district 6250. The bell will originate at the first club that the District Governor visits beginning in July of 2009. The bell will stay with that club until a “contingent” of Rotarians from another club makes a visit and takes the bell back to their club.
THE RULES:
A “contingent” of Rotarians is defined as not less than five percent of the club members or less than five club members. A club of 100 members, or less, would have to send 5 members to capture the bell. A club of 200 members would have to send 10 members.
- The visiting club must notify the host club secretary that they are intending to visit. The capturing rights belong to the first club to call with their intentions to visit the host club.
- The host secretary will offer a date they'll be ready for the visit.
- It will be the responsibility of the host club to notify District Headquarters of the movement of the bell immediately after it departs with the capturing club.
- The capturing club will be responsible for notifying the scorekeeper of the number of members in the contingent and the one-way distance traveled to capture the bell.
The location of the bell will be posted continuously on the web-site.
There must be a one-club hiatus between being a host club and a capturing club. The top three “capturing” clubs will be recognized at the district conference scheduled for May 2010. Points will be awarded based on the number of Rotarians in the contingent and the distance traveled.
Example: A club contingent of 7 members travels 100 miles to the host club. They will receive 700 points toward an award that will be made at the District Conference scheduled in May of 2010. The top three capturing clubs will be recognized.
If the bell is at a club when the District Governor visits… he will gift $100 in the name of the club to the Rotary Foundation. If the bell is captured by 30 clubs in the district before the district conference in 2010, the District Governor will donate $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation Polio Eradication Effort.
This bell is very special. During a friendship exchange between our district and India, this bell was purchased at a Foundation Fundraising Auction for $1,500. Even while we are having fun with the Traveling Bell, let’s remember each time the bell rings that Rotary has led the effort to free the world of polio.
