DISTRICT 6250 GSE INFORMATION
GROUP STUDY EXCHANGEDistrict 6250 has been very supportive of Group Study Exchange. It is a Foundation supported program that allows groups of young people to participate in cross cultural experiences that ultimately result in an increased awareness of, and appreciation for, other cultures. In Rotary year 2009-2010 we are fortunate to be able to participate in two GSE opportunities. The first exchange is with Japan. It is multi disciplined, which is to say, it does not involve a specific vocational focus. Our team will be going out to Japan from October 15 to November 12, 2009. This is to accommodate their attendance at the District Conference in Japan which is held in November. The team from Japan will come to us April 25, 2010 and depart after our District Conference on May 23, 2010. The second GSE is with the “Switzerland of South America”, Uruguay. This exchange doe have a focus and that is “agribusiness.” This exchange involves a simultaneous in bound and out bound exchange from late April 24 to May 23, 2010. I chose agribusiness for several reasons. In the first place, our district, despite urbanization, is largely rural. Agribusiness in all of its forms continues to be a huge part of the economy throughout Wisconsin. Secondly, I am hopeful that clubs that have not participate in GSE will see this as a unique opportunity to identify a candidate to serve as the team leader and more importantly, to identify good and worthwhile candidates for the team itself. Agribusiness? It is dairy, animal husbandry, cash cropping, farm implements, agricultural financing, education, seed production, genetics and the list goes on. Team Leader candidates must be active members of one of the clubs in our district. Team members cannot be in direct lineal relationship with a member of Rotary, must be between the ages of 25-40 at the time of the GSE and residents of, and employed within, the district. Please, take the time to give this some thought and then get involved in the recruitment process. Tom Marshall, our immediate PDG, is going to be assuming the chair of the GSE Committee effective 1 July. He, the Assistant DG’s, the newly appointed Area GSE Coordinators and I, are more than willing to assist you through the process. My hope is that we have team members from the four corners of the district…wouldn’t that be something? |
