Meet  2012 - 2013  District 6250 Governor  Rob Stroud

Rob Stroud

Rob joined the Downtown Madison Rotary Club in 1980, sponsored by his father, and became a third generation Rotarian, following his grandfather, father and uncle. The international aspect of Rotary appealed to Rob, and he agreed to host a Rotary Exchange student from Brazil shortly after joining Rotary, the first of many Rob and his family have hosted. After serving as his club's youth exchange officer for several years, Rob agreed to host a visiting Group Study Exchange team member from India. The experience turned out to be so rewarding that in the following year, he assumed responsibility for making all of the hosting arrangements for a GSE team from the Philippines. This led to promotion to Chairman of the GSE committee, a position Rob held for more than twenty years. Rob was the team leader for the GSE team that visited District 2250 (Norway) in 2004. Rob attended the Rotary International conferences in Seoul, Korea and Chicago.

Within his club, Rob has served in numerous capacities, including two terms on the board of directors, club president in 1989‐90, foundation president, youth exchange officer, member and/or chairman of a number of committees and fellowship groups and a long‐term and continuing member of the club's kitchen committee. Rob is a nine times Paul Harris Fellow and a loyal supporter of both the Rotary International Foundation and the Madison Rotary Foundation.

Rob is the managing partner of Stroud, Willink and Howard where he began his practice in 1974, joining his grandfather, father and uncle. He has his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison law school and is a member of the Dane County and Wisconsin Bar Associations. His practice is primarily focused on estate planning and business law. He is active in community service as a board member on a number of boards of directors, including the Madison Library Foundation, the Cremer Foundation, the Dane County Hockey Officials Association, the Wisconsin Lacrosse Officials Association, and the Goodman‐Rotary MSCR 50+ Fitness Program. Rob referees ice hockey and lacrosse and actively participates in numerous sports. He is one of the charter members, and the oldest, of the Flying Fossils, a competitive, international team of inline skaters, all of whom are over the age of 55, and he is also an active member of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Scuba Divers.

Rob served in the U.S. Army, with most of his service in an Army Reserve hospital unit in Madison. Rob and his wife, Mary are the parents of three adult children, all of whom are former Rotary Exchange students. Their older son is an attorney, currently serving in the U.S. Army as the commander of a combat engineering company. Their daughter is a physician, completing her surgical residency at Dartmouth. Their younger son spent two years as a Rotary Exchange student and, since finishing college, has been working in Chicago for the National Immigration Justice Center.
