Meet  2009 - 2010  District 6250 Governor  Dean Dickinson

Dean DickinsonDean first joined the Downtown Rotary Club of La Crosse in 1972.  He left the club in 1983 for family reasons and returned to membership in 1990 and has been a member of  Rotary for twenty eight years.

Dean was made an Honorary Paul Harris Fellow by his club in 1996.  He is now a seven times Paul Harris Fellow and he and his wife, Dianne are members of the Bequest Society of Rotary International.

He has served on the board of the Downtown Rotary Club in 1997-1999 and from 2003-2006.  He served on the clubs Foundation Board from 2000-2002 and from 2004-2005.  He served as Centennial President of his club in 2004-2005 during which time the club sponsored an Ambassadorial Scholar, a member to the GSE Team to Taiwan, completed the club pledge of $100,000 for Polio Plus, completed an EREY enrollment and saw twenty seven Paul Harris Awards presented in the club.

At the present time Dean serves  on the District Foundation Board and is Chairman of the Annual Programs Committee.  He serves on the executive committee of the Hixon-Myrick Eco-Park, a 4.5 million dollar Centennial Year project that is being developed by the eight Rotary Clubs in the La Crosse area.  He has attended the last five International Conferences, at Osaka, Chicago, Copenhagen-Malmo, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles.

Dean has been active in his community, serving as President of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation, Treasurer of the Greater La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce and President of the Gateway Area Council, B.S.A.  He is an Eagle Scout, has been awarded the Silver Beaver Award for service to the council scouting program and the LAMB award from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for his service to youth.

Dean and Dianne are both graduates of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He served with the U.S. Army in the Republic of Vietnam in 1970-71. Dean retired in 2002 as the President of the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes.  Dianne is a retired school teacher.  They are the proud parents of two children, Marissa, a 2005 graduate of St. Olaf College and Tyler, a senior at the University of Minnesota.
